Football has many miraculous comebacks, controversies and last minute winners. But a team being stripped of a goal two hours after their game is very shocking.

This event occurred during the 2024 olympics, when Argentina faced Morocco, the match began as a typical football match with attacking play from both sides.

In the first half Morocco gained the upper hand thanks to a goal from Sofiane Rahimi. And then Rahimi doubled his tally by scoring a penalty around the hour mark, giving the Atlas Lions a 2-0 lead against the current world champions.

Argentina were on the verge of defeat and Argentina’s Medina scored a tap in which reduced the gap to 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining. And the referee added 15 minutes of added time due to injuries and intense moments.   

The Controversial Equalizer.

In the final moments of the added time Medina scored a controversial equalizer which caused the Morocco fans to react violently, they started throwing flares, bottles, cups at the players and the officials which led to chaos. Initially, the match was believed to be over, with FIFA’s website announcing the conclusion. Video boards of the stadium informed the fans to leave the stadium as the match was suspended.

What Happened Afterwards?

After the teams left the field due to the fan invasion, it was revealed that the match was not over. And after the VAR check Medina’s goal was overturned and the match ended with Morocco’s victory by 2-1.
