My adventure began at Tinsukia train station, where I hopped onto a train bound for Guwahati with my cousin. Picture us, a bag full of snacks, a ukulele, and hearts full of excitement. The scenic train ride set the tone for the trip, with beautiful countryside views. Upon reaching Guwahati, we stayed at my uncle's house for two days, enjoying family time and exploring the city's vibrant markets.
After our stay in Guwahati, we traveled to Shillong, staying with my uncle's relatives. The winding roads and lush greenery made for a mesmerizing journey. Arriving at my relatives' house, we were welcomed with warm smiles and hot tea—just the way we like it.
The next day was packed with excitement as we set out to explore Shillong. We felt like kids in a candy store, except the candy was amazing sights around every corner:
Elephant Falls: Standing in front of this three-tiered waterfall, we felt like ants. The cascading water was both mesmerizing and a bit intimidating.
Shillong Peak: At the highest point, we stood there with our arms outstretched, yelling "We're on top of the world!" Okay, maybe not that dramatic, but the panoramic views were worth a little theatrics.
Ward’s Lake: A charming lake perfect for a leisurely walk. We almost tripped over our feet while trying to take selfies with the ducks.
On the same day, we embarked on a day trip to Cherrapunji, known for its rainfall. Here’s a fun fact: We wore our raincoats the whole day, and it didn’t rain once. But the sights made up for the dry spell:
Mawsmai Cave: We felt like Indiana Jones navigating the narrow passages of this limestone cave.
Seven Sisters Falls: Imagine trying to count the falls and losing track after three because you're too busy being awestruck.
Living Root Bridges: Nature’s very own suspension bridges. We half-expected to find a troll demanding a toll as we crossed.
After a day full of adventures, we returned to Shillong in the evening, tired but exhilarated.
I had brought my ukulele on this trip, hoping to make a cover song video for my Instagram. As a small content creator, I was excited about the idea. However, my social awkwardness got the better of me, and I couldn't muster the courage to perform in front of people. The catch? I forgot my ukulele in a taxi in Guwahati. Yes, I did it. The ukulele that was supposed to be my travel buddy ended up having its own adventure.
The next day, we caught a bus from Shillong to Guwahati. Sitting by the window, we watched the scenic hills fade into the distance. Reflecting on our journey, we couldn’t help but smile at the memories and the humorous moments along the way.
This trip to Shillong and Cherrapunji was a beautiful blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and warm hospitality. From the bustling city of Guwahati to the serene landscapes of Shillong and the unique attractions of Cherrapunji, every moment was filled with wonder and excitement. If you’re looking for an enriching travel experience in the Northeast, this journey is one you shouldn’t miss.
